Game Changer: Mary Burke

Mary Burke

Mary Burke’s ties to Wisconsin run deep. Her father started the Trek Bicycling Corporation when she was a teenager. She would later become its Director of European Operations and lead the Strategic Planning Department. Now, a highly accomplished business woman and public servant, Mary is ready to move Wisconsin beyond partisan fighting and get the Governor’s office back working for the people of the state.

Governor – Wisconsin – Challenger. Mary is challenging incumbent Governor Scott Walker. She is the first woman to be nominated by the Democratic Party for Governor.

Mary previously served as Wisconsin’s Secretary of Commerce where she focused on attracting new businesses to Wisconsin.

As Trek’s Director of European Operations, Mary established sales and distribution operations in 7 countries, increasing annual sales from $3 million to over $50 million.

She currently serves on the Madison School Board; she was elected in 2012.

  • ★ 50/50 Representation

Why should good government depend on only half of the nation’s human capital? WCF commits to 50/50 representation of women and men in elected office by 2028.

  • ★ Common Ground

Common ground just means problems get solved more collaboratively, for the good of more people. It’s the bedrock of our leadership at home and abroad.

  • ★ Viability for Election

It takes more than money to make a candidate worth electing. WCF looks for guts, street sense, situational awareness, resilience -- the full range of gifts a woman brings to the race.

  • ★ Non-Partisan

A woman’s place is in every party, every elected office, at every level. Period.
