WCF Difference
-
Early
We understand the importance of supporting women at the earliest stages of their race, when that support is most needed.
-
At All Levels
We support women leaders at all levels of government - and we do mean all. From school board to Congress, women are needed at all levels to make a positive difference in their communities.
-
Bipartisan
We support women leaders on both sides of the aisle who support women.
-
Bold
We are not bound by party politics or conventional thinking. We are uncompromising in our vision of more women in government and are willing to challenge the status quo to achieve it.
-
Diverse
We want a truly representative government that reflects the diversity of our country, including women of color, LGBT women, and young women.

Daily Brief: November 14, 2012
Ta Ta For Now
Well, this is it. The final MsRepresentation brief of the year. I know. It’s been quite the ride, no? We laughed. We cried. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. And now all good things must come to an end. But don’t think of this as goodbye, it’s more of a TTYL. We’ll miss you too, darling, but you can help ensure MsRep returns better than ever in January (in time for the Inauguration!) by donating a few bucks to the effort. After all, even with all these amazing new women in office, you don’t think we’ve seen the last of the war on women, do you?
Without further ado, your final MsRep of 2012…
By The Power Vested In Women
We now pronounce this election ours.
As If You Needed Further Convincing
Just for fun, want to see how different the election would have turned out if women couldn’t vote?
You Win Some, You Lose Some
Outside groups may have spent more than $1.3 billion on this election, but that doesn’t mean they all got what they paid for. Some of the biggest winners of the night? Unions! Some of the biggest losers? Well, see for yourself…
Not Fly For A White Guy
Brace yourself. The face of Congress is changing (Hint: It includes minorities and women).
You’re Doing It Wrong
Word to the not-so-wise: Lecturing women on vaginas that can shut down rape (they can’t) and/or implying that rape is a gift from God (it’s not) and everything in between just might create a gender gap so ginormous that you’ll fall right in.
BLFF is a BFD
If you follow women in politics at all (and we’re taking a wild guess that you do), then you know that women candidates face the “double bind of [having to be] both likable and qualified at the same time.” So how did women overcome the bind this election and manage to bring down the proverbial hammer? This research from the Barbara Lee Family Foundation gives us the breakdown.
Math Is Hard
In response to Tammy Baldwin’s epic Senate win last Tuesday, Senator Ron Johnson laid the chauvinism on pretty thick when he said he’d be sure to sit down and explain the federal budget to her, to which Tammy was like—“Uh, I dub majored in Math and Poli Sci, then served six years on the House Budget Committee. I got this.”
Workin’ The Social Network
You know all that time you spend liking, tagging, and stalking updating on Facebook? Apparently, time well spent if you wanna become a Senator!
What Women Want
Persnickety extremist anti-choice candidates are taking their toys and going home, complaining that they only lost so horribly ‘cause they didn’t focus on abortion enough during their campaigns. Riiight. Next time around, definitely make sure you spend more time telling women to shut up about their reproductive rights. That’s for sure a one-way ticket to Electedville.
A Rollercoaster of Emotions
Will Hillary run for President in 2016? Be still, my heart.
You Had Us Going for a Minute
After initial reports that she might be stepping down as House Minority Leader (WHAT?!?), Nancy Pelosi announced this morning that she will actually be sticking around for at least 2 more years (WHEW!). With that settled (it is settled, right?), many are now watching to see whether the GOP will select Cathy McMorris Rodgers to be only the second woman ever to hold the title of House GOP Conference Chairwoman. Stay tuned!
Kicking Serious AZ
Huge congrats to Kyrsten Sinema, who was finally declared the winner in her race for Arizona’s 9th Congressional District by more than 6,000 votes! Boom. Want to see who else with be joining Kyrsten on Capitol Hill in January? Visit the Operation MsRepresentation Election Results Center for the latest, including several local races that have yet to be called. Get it together, Oklahoma!
Slow Your Roll
Although all the progress women made this election has been a whirlwind of awesome, it may be a tad too early to pop the champagne. (Actually, who are we kidding? It's never too early for that. But still.). This NYMag article lets us know why we actually still have tons of work to do, and features none other than Prez/CEO of WCF, Sam Bennett. It even mentions a certain upcoming event…
We Should Totes Hang Out
Know what you’re doin’ on December 4th? How ‘bout joining us for the 2nd Annual She Should Run National Conversation (Election 2012: Straight Up & Unfiltered)? Awesome panelists will be answering your questions, and we’ll all have a great time eating, drinking, and figuring out what the hell needs to be done so that we can FINALLY achieve equal representation sometime before the glaciers melt! In our lifetimes would be nice.
Daily Brief: November 7, 2012
You Legitimately Kicked Ass Last Night
OMG, everyone. What a historic freakin’ election. Since male legislators have been telling women what they can and can’t do with their bodies since, like, forever, it all finally seemed to backfire. This election cycle, their anti-women shenanigans motivated us to call them out on their B.S., run for office, and get to the polls and vote. Here are the 3 big takeaways from last night: 1.) Don’t be the guy that tells women how their lady parts work, because you will definitely lose. 2.) New Hampshire has a penchant for making history. 3.) Hella women are headed to the Senate, and you have yourselves to thank, MsReppers.
Who Won the War on Women?
Women.
Hey Girl Hey!
Say hello to the first LGBT person and only woman from Wisconsin to ever be elected to the U.S. Senate—Tammy Baldwin! What could possibly top off the amazingness that is this victory? The fact that WCF was the one to encourage Tammy to run for office in the first place. You’re welcome, America.
New Champshire
Maggie Hassan wasn’t about to let the country be devoid of any pro-choice women governors, so she went ahead and won last night too. Boom. Speaking of New Hampshire being a boss, Ann McLane Kuster and Carol Shea-Porter won their races, which means the state now has the FIRST EVER ALL WOMEN DELEGATION in history omg omg omg. MsRep (and WCF) took a lot of heat for supporting Maggie and Carol early in their primaries, both against other women. But aren't you glad we did? The stakes were just too damn high to sit on the sidelines. Wait, MsRep forgot who she was talking to. We know y'all get it. ;)
Todd Akin Can Kiss My...
...voting ballot, since it saved him from being the most painfully ignorant Senator in history. Great job at keeping Claire McCaskill in office, Missouri! If you’re a MsRep reader, or have forwarded it to your friends, or voted for Claire, or all of the above—this one was all you. And Todd, you and your party best be doing some soul searching after that gender gap kind of kicked you in the ass.
Ya Win Some, Ya Lose Some
So Missouri, huge props on getting Stacey Newman re-elected and getting Vicki Englund her seat back! Unfortunately, Teresa Hensley, Susan Montee, Sandra Reeves, and Deb Lavender didn’t win their races. Congrats on races well run, ladies.
Warren Wins Her War
In the face of countless racist, sexist, and just all around malicious attacks from Scott Brown, Elizabeth Warren emerged victorious in her Senate race. MsReppers across the country, we can’t thank you enough for gettin’ Elizabeth into that Senate seat and making sure Scott Brown is somewhere flipping burgers instead of his position on women’s rights.
Some Bad News For The Buckeye State
In Ohio, we definitely saw some of our women face tough losses. Even though it didn’t end in a W, congrats to Angela Zimmann, Joyce Healy-Abrams, Sharen Neuhardt, and Kristen McKinley for running great campaigns. And MsRep is particularly bummed about Congresswoman Betty Sutton’s loss. But on a positive note, Joyce Beatty won her race and will now be reppin’ you in Congress!
Empire State of Voting
A big shout out to the New Yorkers who elected Grace Meng into Congress and for getting Patricia Fahy and Nily Rozic into the State Assembly! We’re also super pumped that Louise Slaughter kept her seat in Congress, on account of she’s awesome. Unfortunately, there were some losses too: Congresswoman Kathy Hochul, Christina Abt, Robin Andrews, Bridget Fleming, and Luz Shulgin. Well fought races, ladies—especially Kathy, who had a huge disadvantage from all the crazy redictricting. We know this isn’t the last we’ll be seeing of you, though!
Pat On The Back For PA
Pennsylvania will be missing out on some great women candidates, as well. Missa Eaton, Kathy Boockvar, and Aryanna Strader lost their Congressional races, and Beth Alois, Harriet Ellenberger, Maureen Madden, and Kimberly Pazzanita Villella won’t be in the State House of Reps. It wasn’t all bad, though. Congrats to their new Attorney General—Kathleen Kane, and their new State Reps—Mary Jo Daley, Madeleine Dean, and Erin Molchany. PA, you were ranked 42nd in the country for your number of women in office, so this is a good start!
Undecideds
There are quite a few races that are still undecided, particularly at the local level. For the latest in election results, turn to the Operation: MsRepresentation Election Center!
Show Me The Money
So, let’s be real. MsRep gave you the juicy deets on pre-election news for the past two weeks, and based on all the friend requests we've been getting, you've clearly been telling your friends about all the egregious horribleness that was coming out of candidates' mouths. Together, we kept the Todd Akins of the world out of office. We’ve got a good thing going here, people—wanna make sure we can keep it going by throwing a donation our way?
We Need To Talk...
Join She Should Run for their 2nd Annual She Should Run National Conversation on December 4th and get the inside scoop on this election. Awesome panelists will be answering your questions, and we’ll all have a great time figuring out what happened, why it matters, and what we need to do about it. Get your tickets here!

1 Day Until the Election
Are you ready? Election Day 2012 kicks off in less than 24 hours and our fate for the next 2-6 years will be decided as millions of women head to the polls.
Maybe you want to turn this year’s War on Women into a Year of the Woman.
Maybe you want Congress to, I dunno, do something. Anything, really.
Maybe you want to make history.
Heck, maybe you just think an “I voted” sticker is the perfect fall accessory.
Whatever your reasons, tomorrow is the day to strut into that voting booth and make your voice heard.
Below are just some of MsRep’s many reasons for voting tomorrow. Please forward them along to any friends who need that extra little nudge.
Already voted? Share your reasons on Facebook and Twitter and let all your friends know why their vote matters.
It's now or never. See you on the other side. MsRep out.

4 Days Until the Election
Trouble Deciding Who To Vote For?
Well, just pick the one that looks most like George Clooney. We ladies can’t be bothered with things like party platforms or voting records or...wait, what was I saying? I went too long without talking about boys.
Excuse Me, You’re Stepping On My Rights
Besides wanting to suppress a woman’s right to choose, anti-choice activists are also trying to suppress your right to vote by “camp[ing] just outside of the ‘no politics’ buffer zone set up around [polling] sites.” As if Joyce Healy-Abrams (OH-07) didn’t have enough to do to prepare for Election Day, now she’s gotta deal with these losers.
Yes for Yvonne
Wanna make sure that the only woman running in South Texas gets elected into the TX State House of Reps? You definitely do, because Yvonne Gonzalez Toureilles’ opponent is the kinda person that votes “yes” on mandatory sonogram bills. Oh, and Yvonne’s getting outspent 4-1. Got friends near Kingsville? Make sure they get out and vote for Yvonne!
Opa Vote Now Style
It’s going to be pretty tough for our Missouri candidates to win if only 70% of residents come out to vote, as expected. C’mon, 30 percenters, make sure we get these ladies in office: Senator Claire McCaskill, Stacey Newman, Deb Lavender, Sandra Reeves, Teresa Hensley, Susan Montee, and Vicki Englund (whom lots of you came out to support at her Power of the Purse event!). Vote now, or forever hold your peace when Todd Akin is elected Sena...Omg. Can't even finish that sentence without being overcome with depression.
Lowlight Reel
And here’s Tammy Duckworth with her constituents in Illinois, going through a formidable list of every idiotic thing Joe Walsh has ever said. Grab a snack or something, guys, ‘cause we may be here for a while.
Fourth Quarter Plays
Although Shelley Adler's opponent (former Eagles player Jon Runyan) is currently leading in the polls, the William J. Hughes Center for Public Policy says the lead isn’t insurmountable. Shelley’s got her game face on; yesterday, she called out her opponent for having a voting record “that he needs to be accountable for...[which] is not one that represents the interests of the people of [New Jersey’s] Third District."
State Reppin’
The Colorado Statesman has highlighted the state’s Top 12 Legislative Races to pay attention to, so of course a whole bunch of our candidates would make the cut! Shout-outs to Linda Newell, Tracy Kraft-Tharp, Evie Hudak, and Crestina Martinez for making Colorado proud.
All My Denver Ladies
Linda Newell and Evie Hudak weren't quite finished being amazing, and were listed again in Huffington Post’s Top 4 Statewide Races For Women’s Health, saying the candidates have “stood up for women’s health time and time again.” You know the ol’ saying: Give hella credit where hella credit is due.
Slaughtering It In The Polls
Despite some less-than-ideal redistricting, Congresswoman Louise Slaughter is up 10 whoppin’ points, doubling her lead from just a couple of weeks ago. It’s up to you now, NY-25.
You, Me, and JVP
Jessica Vega Pederson, candidate for Oregon’s State House of Reps and advocate for Oregon’s children and working families, is calling on you in the final stretch to donate, volunteer, and most importantly, VOTE!
What’s Hawaiian for Awesome?
When she was 21, Tulsi Gabbard became the youngest member of the Hawaii House of Representatives. The next year, she served on two deployments in the Middle East with the Hawaii National Guard. If elected next Tuesday, she’d be the first Hindu-American and one of the youngest members of Congress. Does that adequately sum up the awesome that is Tulsi freakin' Gabbard?
Everything’s Bigger in Texas
Wendy Davis’ race for a seat in Texas’ State Senate is one of the biggest and perhaps most expensive in the entire state, turning into a “multi-million dollar fight” in what is “an emotional race” of “great importance across the state.” Let’s git ‘er done, Fort Worth!
Hoping for Hochul
You know you’re a tough candidate when you’re running in a district that’s been redrawn with a clear advantage for your opponent, yet you still manage to hold strong in the polls. Props to Congresswoman Kathy Hochul who, despite all odds, is running a race that “could end up being one of the closest in New York.” Quite a testament to how hard she already works on Capitol Hill.
Gimme Maureen
The Pocono Record is a huge fan of Maureen Madden, the “feisty newcomer [who] deserves your vote for [Pennsylvania’s] 176th House District seat, held for five terms by Rep. Mario Scavello,” who, p.s., has voted for putting wands in your vagina. Um, Maureen for House of Reps, please.
Another Check On the To-Do List
Last night, MsRep did some good ol’ phonebanking for Kyrsten Sinema, who’s running in Arizona’s 9th Congressional District. But the job isn’t done yet, and now we’re in New Hampshire to campaign with Ann McLane Kuster, who’s running for New Hampshire’s 2nd Congressional District. So much to do, so little time before Election Day!
Freakin’ Love What You’re Reading?
Of course you do. If you’ve read this far, we’re guessing it’s not ‘cause you hate it. So how ‘bout throwing some donations our way? MsRep stays employed—and you still get your daily dose of essential pre-election updates (which are essench, because how else are you gonna know exactly what’s going down in every state in the country?). Everybody wins.
Daily Brief: November 1, 2012
5 Days Until the Election
Good News/Bad News
Good news first? “Compared to two decades ago, the wage gap has certainly narrowed.” Before you get too excited, know “there’s no guarantee it will disappear with the next generation of women.” But I guess nobody told awesome mechanical engineering student Maxime Chin, who clearly has no plans to wait for the next generation to ensure she gets fair pay. MsRep is taking notes.
Mirror Mirror
While the latest polling indicates the Presidential election could not be any closer nationally, the candidates’ support from men and women are actually pretty much inverted. President Obama enjoys the support of 52% of women and 44% of men, while Governor Romney has support from 51% of men and 44% of women. And since the two candidates are also exact opposites on women’s issues, it’s pretty clear the ladies will be the deciding factor in this election.
Carpooling: Good For Election Day and the Environment
While U.S. Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren makes her final push, something was brought to her camp’s attention that we should all be aware of. Although many of the canvassed people were her supporters, some will face obstacles to actually voting—such as not having a ride to a polling place, or their polling place having moved. Because this isn’t only going on in Massachusetts—this is a national problem—your homework for this week: Make sure you and at least 5 friends know where to vote and how you’re going to get there!
That Rape Thingamajig
This Congressional candidate from Washington wants you to know, “The rape thing, you know, I know a woman who was raped...she's a big pro-life proponent.” See? Rape-whatchamacallit is really no big deal. Wow, Washington...how freakin’ relieved are you to have Suzan DelBene to vote for instead?
Casting A Light On Strader
Lancaster Online has written a piece spotlighting Aryanna Strader’s “fighting spirit,” applauding the Iraq war vet and mother of two for her refusal to take her opponent’s “redistricting shenanigans” without a fight. That’s the kind of no-nonsense attitude that Pennsylvania’s 16th Congressional District needs. C’mon PA, you can boost your number of women in Congress from 1 to a whopping 3 on Election Day with Aryanna, Kathryn Boockvar and Missa Eaton!
Pillaging the Lies
Connie Pillich, running for reelection in Ohio’s 28th House District, has no problem completely ripping apart her opponent’s “wildly inaccurate and misleading claims” about her time in office, complete with charts and graphs— because studies show that children learn better with illustrations.
BUURN.
The Des Moines Register pulled no punches in their assessment of Congressman Steve King’s seven terms in Iowa’s 4th Congressional District, calling him “one of the most notoriously divisive...members of Congress,” and telling the reader that “you don’t need to take it from me. Take it from someone in his own party, in his own district, who is supporting his opponent [Christie Vilsak].” Oof. That one’s gonna leave a mark.
Let’s Get Ready To Rumble
Carol Beals, candidate for Wisconsin State Assembly, has arranged a verbal throwdown (aka debate) with her opponent for later today. In a state legislature where only 23 out 99 members are women, it’s crucial that we get Beals in the women’s corner.
Wise As Yoda
Candidate for Indiana’s 9th Congressional District Shelli Yoder killed it during her debate on Monday night, most notably calling out her opponent for not commenting on Richard Mourdock’s abhorrent views on rape, to which Shelli retorted, “Make no mistake. Rape is rape.” This is probably why President Clinton just endorsed her. It's the perfect time to rally behind Shelli, y'all!
Ransom Money
Candidate for San Joaquin Board of Supervisors Rhodesia Ransom is still working hard and going strong in California, pulling in nearly $142,510 for her campaign through October. And with her “do more with less” background while running a nonprofit, Rhodesia’s a must-have for San Joaquin’s Board.
It’s Their Time
The New York Times has highlighted the country’s Top 10 House Races to Watch, picking the ten races that are “tight, exciting, and riddled with tough advertisements.” Two of these include Cheri Bustos in Illinois’ 17th District and Congresswoman Kathy Hochul in New York’s 27th District, so get your voting pants on and keep the popcorn handy!
MsRep
’s Nuehardt
MsRep wasn’t kidding when she said she was headed to Ohio, the battleground state that will play a huge role in deciding the next President. Check out these pics from the luncheon for Sharon Nuehardt, running in Ohio’s 10th Congressional District (featuring Terry O’Neil, NOW President)!

No Day At The Beach
While the nation continues to grapple with the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy, some are starting to wonder how it will affect next week's election. Here are Politico's the six things to watch for in the storm’s political fallout, including how it could affect East Coast candidates.
Can We Be Real For A Sec?
MsRep is all for bipartisanship…seriously, you won’t find bigger supporters of pro-choice Republican women. But it’s unsettling that Mitt Romney (or any candidate) can gain so much female support by having more positions on abortion than Paranormal Activity has sequels.
No Initiative For You
Need another reason why the Presidential election is so important? They'll be the one appointing justices who will make desicions like this: After Personhood Oklahoma proposed an initiative that would grant full rights to fertilized human eggs, the Supreme Court told them to kindly get lost, as it’s “clearly unconstitutional.” And perhaps because wanting to treat a diploid cell like it’s a person may or may not be completely freaking nuts.
Two’s Company
U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell and congressional candidate Suzan DelBene both stopped by Kirkland, Washington on their campaign trail. Suzan is in a super tight race, so Maria would like to remind you that “DelBene would be an instant expert in Congress!” Get it done, Washington!
Happiest Place on Earth?
Only if Florida gets Val Demings representing them in Congress. And with Demings closing in on the incumbent in the polls, Florida’s 10th District may be about to get a little happier.
Hit The Road, Joe
FINALLY. Polling that makes sense (looking at you, Missouri). Joe Walsh—misogynist, straight up liar, and veteranaphobe (it takes a special kinda person to make that a thing)—is falling behind Tammy Duckworth in the race for Illinois’ 8th Congressional District. Later, dude. Don’t let the voting booth hit you on the way out.
Gracefully Dealing With A Hurricane
At a unity rally on Sunday, Grace Meng–New York’s 6th Congressional District likely new Congresswoman–opened her speech by saying, “What better way than to make sure elected officials keep their speeches under 2 minutes than to hold it in the middle of a hurricane?” See? Grace always has her constituents’ best interest at heart. MsRep can't wait to have her on Capitol Hill!
Makin’ Bank
Riverbank Mayor Virginia Madueño has left nearly three dozen candidates’ fundraising efforts in the dust, bringing in almost $28,000 for her reelection campaign. You know the saying: Virginia is for Californians.
Bring It
Although it’s true that Nicole LeFavour is up against some stiff competish (a seven-term Congressman!), the Idaho Statesman ruled their most recent debate as a victory for Nicole. Perf, ‘cause it’s about time Idaho’s 2nd Congressional District got some new leadership, preferably from someone who doesn’t question whether or not there is really a problem with pay equity for women.
You Know How I Know You’re Gross?
Cuz you referred to a candidate as “an ugly old dyke.” In spite of the disgusting display of homophobia and sexism, North Carolina House candidate Susan Wilson responded with nothing but class. “It's a shame this is going on. My priorities are simple…practical, common-sense ideas for growing our economy...This attack by a member of my opponent’s inner circle, while unacceptable, won’t distract me.”

7 Days Until the Election
RIP Betty Anne
MsRep is saddened to report that U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill’s mother, Betty Anne McCaskill, passed away yesterday. A fixture on Claire’s successful 2006 Senate campaign, Betty Anne was no stranger to politics. She served on Missouri’s Commission on the Status of Women in 1970 and in 1971 became Columbia City’s first woman councilmember. The McCaskill family is in our thoughts and prayers today.
#Sandy
Hurricane Sandy was downgraded to a post-tropical storm overnight, but the storm has already claimed 16 lives in the U.S. and millions are facing power outages and flooding. Please stay dry and safe, y’all. With only a week to go before voters head to the polls, the question is now whether Sandy’s lingering effects could disrupt or delay the election, which would be rather unprecedented. Also unprecedented: women holding all the top offices in New Hampshire including the governor’s mansion, both U.S. House seats, and both Senate seats.
We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together
Women voters are going to be super critical this election and the campaigns are pulling out all the stops to court mobilize women. And what really motivates women? Relationship analogies, obviously! Ugh. Instead of political parties being the boyfriend who “would rather go drinking with his buddies” or your first election being a lot like “your first time,” here’s a metaphor for you: women are like voters and voting is a lot like making your voice heard to ensure that your reproductive choices and options are protected.
Him?
Oh, for the love of ---, Missouri. Todd McCreeperson Akin cannot be down only 2 points from Claire McCaskill…right? Right??? That’s some kind of scary Halloween prank? Well, quit it, or we’re gonna have a U.S. Senator walking around calling women “wildcats” when he’s not too busy telling them what their vaginas are capable of.
Tinubu or TinuBUST!
If Gloria Tinubu pulls off an underdog victory for South Carolina’s 7th Congressional District, she will be the first woman to serve in Congress from the state in 20 years—bringing “gender and ideological diversity to a South Carolina.” You know what to do, SC.
Rooting for Robin
New York State Senate candidate Robin Andrews has all the right people on her side. When a group like New Yorkers for Social Justice are putting thousands of dollars into your campaign, you’re doing it right. FYI: Her opponent is a HUGE fan of ballot initiatives. Because what you can do with your body should always be put to a popular vote. The Times Union also showed some love to Cecilia Tkaczyk (pronounced KAT-chik) who is also running for NY Senate!
The Sun Shines on Shelley
Check out the Las Vegas Sun drop absolute knowledge bombs on why Shelley Berkley is a definite must win for U.S. Senate. “I am…perplexed at the idea that Shelley Berkley could lose to Dean Heller…We always hear the question: What have you done for me lately? Well, Berkley has and continues to do everything that is necessary. Why on Earth would we not want that talent, drive and experience in the United States Senate working for us?” Well okay, then.
I’m Sec State and I Know It
North Carolina Secretary of State Elaine Marshall is makin’ the final rounds before election day, basically letting everyone know that, considering all of her accomplishments during her first term—reelecting her is pretty much the obvious choice.
Power Walk
Huge congrats to Joyce Beatty for walking away with a “Most Powerful Women Award” from Ohio’s Annual Diversity & Leadership Conference! The former Ohio House of Representatives Minority Leader is on track to become the next Congresswoman for Ohio’s 3rd Congressional District. Is it too soon to nominate her for next year’s award?
A Glorious Endorsement
Who else wants Patsy Keever representing North Carolina’s 10th Congressional District besides lil ol’ MsRep? Oh, I dunno, just feminist icon and pioneer-of-all-things-amazing Gloria Steinem, who says, “If I lived in North Carolina, I would be voting for [her]…a fearless crusader for the health and well-being of women.” She then asks you to donate to Patsy’s campaign—and if Gloria Steinem tells you to do something, what choice do you have? I mean, really.
Money, Money, Money!
Kathleen Kane is officially leading in the polls—and the dollas! Congrats at being great at making money and being adored by all, Kathleen (we’re talking dub digits here, people).

8 Days Until the Election
Wow. Last week was…interesting:
• Candidates made poop jokes,
• Then made some more poop jokes,
• Compared women candidates to dogs,
• And then dropped some racial slurs just for funsies.
• We learned the U.S. barely ranks above Mozambique for the best countries for women,
• And that women don’t, in fact, vote with their periods,
• We created yet another form of rape,
• And learned that women will pretty much determine the control of the U.S. Senate, who wins in Ohio, and who occupies the White House come January 2013.
And that was just since last Monday! With just one more week until Election Day, we need your help to keep Operation: MsRepresentation up and running. Contribute $15, $35, $100—or whatever you can—and help us ensure that women don’t get ambushed in the critical days before the election.
Our opponents sense an opportunity. They’re not going to stop attacking and outspending our women candidates. Which means we can’t stop fighting back and calling them out at every turn. Donate to Operation: MsRepresentation and help us send the message that women who support reproductive choices and options will NOT be silent this election.
In places like Ohio and New Hampshire, Operation: MsRepresentation is already making a big difference for the campaigns. Will you help us take the fight to all 50 states?
Onward,

11 Days Until the Election
Women Be Votin’
Wanna feel extra important today? Well, listen to this: “...Women are most likely to be the remaining movable part of the electorate, which is precisely why both campaigns are going at them as hard as they are.” What they’re saying is, this election is riding on your votes, ladies. No pressure.
Cruise Ships Are Meant To Fly
A tell-tale sign of a truly amazing candidate is when cruise lines are throwing money your way, just because hey, they think you’re great. Exhibit A: Shelley Adler, who we hope will cruise to a victory in New Jersey’s 3rd Congressional District...eh, eh?
All Of The Above
Before you (falsely) criticize U.S. Senate candidate Tammy Baldwin for not supporting the first responders to the 9/11 attacks, you may want to go through a brief mental check list: 1.) Are you Tommy Thompson, the guy who promised health care to the first responders, but screwed them over instead to make $3 million? If you have marked “yes,” maybe just shut up then.
Policies Only A Paid Actor Can Love
In response to Deb Butler’s infamously badass anti-transvaginal wand ad, her opponent for North Carolina’s 9th State District just released an ad saying wait, no, I’m a nice person, see, my wife totally thinks so.
Bi-
-isan
The kind of update that brings the warm fuzzies to MsRep’s heart! Proving that being pro-women doesn’t have to be confined within party lines, the current chairwoman of the Putnam County Legislature (who's a Republican, btw) has endorsed Democrat Luz Shulgin to succeed her.
it.
More Molchany!
Erin Molchany has big ol’ plans when she gets to Harrisburg if/when she gets elected as the State Rep for the Pittsburgh area! You’re a lucky district, 22.
Stabenow Plays Hardball
Senator Debbie Stabenow has made an offer that Senators Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein simply can’t refuse, placing a chocolate wager on the World Series. Who are you rooting for (besides Stabenow’s reelection, obvs)?
Strader’s A Straight Shooter
Despite the fact she’s challenging a 16-year incumbent, Aryanna Strader (veteran, mother, poverty survivor, and certifiable badass) had a super strong showing at her debate with Congressman Joe Pitts. Pennsylvania, remember how you’re ranked #42 in the country for your number of women in office?...here’s a great way to start chipping away at that problem.
Evil Plans Are Brewin’
When Governor Jan Brewer isn’t busy signing absolutely nonsensical legislation, she’s pouring tons of money into campaigns against Ann Kirkpatrick, candidate for Arizona’s 1st Congressional District! Rude. But even after all that, Ann’s only down by 3 points, so make sure you donate, vote, or both to put this race in W column for Ann.
Let Your Conscience Be Your Guide. Not This.
Speaking of a lack of manners, not only has this PAC in Oregon (whose donors have proven to be pretty shady) put tons of dough into Shemia Fagan’s opponent’s campaign, but they’re also behind this controversial “Women’s Voters Guide,” which is missing a whole lot of Shemia. What the hell, guys?
Cut The Crap
Not only is sending out anti-Evie Hudak mailers that depict a dog—um, doing his business—super offensive, it’s super freakin’ gross. Seriously, like, I was eating. Don’t let a dude who will stoop to such low levels get into your State Senate, Colorado. Vote Evie instead.

12 Days Until the Election
USA! WE'RE NUMBER...22?
Spendid news, America. We're now not even in the top 20 of the best countries for women. Just add this to the list of things we suck at, like female employment rates. Well, how 'bout we employ these ladies!
So Over These Ovaries
Thank god for the CNN article that informed us that our lady hormones affect how we vote, especially when we’re ovulating, since we “feel sexier.” What I’m saying is that women can’t be trusted, period. Speaking of which, definitely don’t vote when you’re on your period. Wait, nvm...the story was retracted in a matter of hours. If you’re wondering why, it rhymes with “schmientifically shminaccurate shmullcrap.”
Silly Women. Rape Is From God.
If you were expecting U.S. Senate candidate Richard Mourdock to apologize for saying that getting pregnant from rape is a “gift from God,” well that’s just tough friggin’ luck. Oh, that noise you hear...that’s just the sound of the gender gap widening.
Woe is the GOP
Take a gander at all the different kinds of rape that exist, at least according to several infamous members of the GOP. Yuck...totally sucks that this is the kind of crap pro-women Republicans have to deal with.
Point: Adler
The Burlington County Times has given Congressional candidate Shelley Adler (NJ-03) a pretty glowing endorsement, saying she’s “willing to stand up and risk taking an unpopular stance.” Meanwhile, her incumbent opponent has voted to defund Planned Parenthood, to which the publication questions, “The women in his life can afford premium health care, but what about the single mom in Burlington City who [can’t]?” Ouch, that one probably stung.
California Love
The Fresno Bee is abuzz with praise for Carol Mills, citing her time in office that resulted in “improved test scores, the district's building program, and the restored finances.” Sounds like the exact kinda leadership we need in our schools, so let’s keep Carol on the Fresno School Board!
Bet on Betty
Congresswoman Betty Sutton (OH-16) has officially fact checked the absolute crap out of her opponent’s latest attack ad. And in addition to being a total boss, she can also put these three major newspaper endorsements under her belt. Can you think of a more perfect candidate to rep Ohio’s 16th District in Congress?...‘cause MsRep certainly can’t.
Forrest Friends
In her free time, Liz Forrest likes to get her environmentalism on—all while bringing the people of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania together. Sheesh Liz, we get it! You’re awesome in every way...no need to rub it in. ;)
Need We Say More?
"Is it possible that Congress would get more done if there were more women in Congress?... I think it’s fair to say: That is almost guaranteed." Soak in those words of inspiration from the President, MsReppers, and then take a look at this infographic that shows all the female Congressional candidates this year.
On the Road Again
MsRep is officially on the ground in Ohio as part of Operation: MsRepresentation! Phonebanking, canvassing, and all around workin' it for our Ohio candidates in the battleground state that may or may not decide the Presidential election...eek!
Equal Pay Doesn’t Grow On Trees
Earlier this week, Maggie Hassan’s opponent admitted that unequal pay for women is indeed unfair, but he’d rather not do anything about it because, eh. Maggie called him out, labeling his views as “disturbing” and that “government has a role to play in ensuring pay equity.” Maggie 4 Governor!

13 Days Until the Election
Frankel-y, That’s Gross
Lois Frankel (who was the first female House Minority Leader in Florida history...no biggie), is being attacked in an ad consisting of a woman talking to the camera whilst sitting on a toilet, then flushing said toilet and saying “Lois Frankel. She’s gotta go.” Super, ‘cause if there’s one thing that’s been missing in politics, it’s poop jokes.
Let’s Drew the Damn Thing
The Seattle P.I. gave hella props to Washington Secretary of State candidate Kathleen Drew, calling her “the most determined-ever challenger” to the “rule of the office,” and that Drew proves “women are a formidable force in Washington politics.” Sheesh, took the words right outta MsRep’s mouth.
Critical Mass
The race is SO ON for Scott Brown and Elizabeth Warren. But with Brown only being pro-choice every other full moon while also having a special place in his heart for racial slurs, he’s not exactly the kinda dude you want as Senator. Elizabeth Warren, on the other hand, is pro-woman and all around badass 100% of the time, so get to it, Massachusetts.
Showing the Show Me State What’s Up
Teresa Hensley is in a pretty intense battle for Missouri’s 4th Congressional District, and she’s not pulling any punches. She recently called out her opponent’s awful voting record, saying, “That's not acceptable. It's unconscionable...There's a huge difference between who I care about and who this Congresswoman does." And that’s why we
her.
Hirono Is Our Hero
If Big Bird is the only thing that two candidates can agree on, you know their debate is gonna be some top-notch sparring. And that’s exactly what happened in the U.S. Senate race for Hawaii, with Congresswoman Hirono taking it to her opponent on everything from state issues to Medicare to national defense. Mahalo, Mazie!
Do Yourself A LeFavour
If you’re a woman in Idaho, voting for Nicole LeFavour is a MUST on your MsRep to-do list. As the first serious challenger for the seat in years, LeFavour’s lookin’ to throw out the anti-choice incumbent and get some new leadership in Idaho’s 2nd Congressional District.
We’re Glad She Said It
Ann McLane Kuster explained that she’s running for New Hampshire’s 2nd Congressional District because she’ll bring sanity to a “Congress [that] is so dysfunctional at this point.” With Ann and our two other pro-choice candidates in New Hampshire (Maggie Hassan and Carol Shea-Porter), this is a history-making race that just keeps getting better and better.
You Sooze, You Lose
To the surprise of absolutely no one, the Susan B. Anthony List has endorsed Heather Beaven’s opponent for Florida’s 6th Congressional District, Ron DeSantis—who is super terrible on all issues women-related. They even mention Women’s Campaign Fund in their press release as that one “pro-abortion group.” Totally feelin’ the love, Suzy!
Sad News
MsRep would like to take a moment to give her best wishes to U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill, who had to cancel her campaign events to spend time with her critically ill mother. You’re in our thoughts, Claire.

14 Days Until the Election
Mission Possible: Protect Lady Parts
Well that’s strange. It appears that women’s issues are super important to women.
Mission Possible 2: Protect the Country
But that’s not all women care about—we’re also able to wrap our dainty little lady-minds around the economy, jobs, and foreign policy issues, too!
Ain’t No Sunshine with Prop 6
Hey Florida ladies, if the government stripping away every right you have as a woman isn’t your idea of a good time, I’d suggest you vote no on Prop 6.
Whose Senate Is It Anyway?
This much is clear: the fight for Senate control hinges on women this November. No big deal, guys; deciding who has control of the world’s greatest deliberative body is all in a day’s work for a woman. Women will also decide the Presidential election, and since that's pretty much hinging on Ohio, you can consider MsRep’s flight booked!
Awkward...
Recent polls show that the gender gap is large and in charge this year, reaching near-record highs. Pourquoi, you may ask? Um, women are prob not too fond of GOPers saying, “You can’t die from childbirth” and “You can’t get pregnant from rape.” ‘Cause the weird thing is…you can.
Don't Get MsRep Wrong
It totally sucks that there’s such a ginormous gender gap. Women shouldn’t have to choose their party based on who’s telling them how their bodies work; we need women on both sides of the aisle! Which is why we need a heck of a lot more rockstar pro-choice Republicans at all levels. Exhibit A: Kay Hatcher, the Republican State Representative from Illinois who is a big believer in women being in charge of their damn selves.
Decisions, Decisions
North Carolina: You’ve got a pretty tough choice ahead of you. Mandated ultrasounds with a side of abortion bans, or a healthy serving of the right to choose what’s best for your body. Sleep on that one.
LOL, SCIENCE
Illinois Congressman Joe Walsh, evidently a devout ToddAkinist, has once again decided that if he says words then they’re obviously true! But oops, it didn’t go over too well: After he claimed that abortions should never be legal since women totally don’t even die during childbirth anyway, a doctor was all “Dude. No.”
Working Hard or Hardly Working?
Do Utah women work half as hard as men? Because they’re being paid half as much, with many of states not too far behind. It’s almost as if there needs to be a law to protect against this sort of thing. Oh wait.
Bustin’ Her Chops
Cheri Bustos is gaining some serious momentum in Illinois! It was only last month that she found herself behind in the polls, but is now up by two points. Lock in your vote for Cheri ASAP; early voting started Monday!
Dear Todd Akin
Sometimes, when thoughts pop into our head, we don’t immediately broadcast it to the universe—as our interior monologue is not, in fact, a live C-SPAN ticker. This ability might prove to be particularly helpful to you the next time you want to compare women to dogs.
Kim For the Win
You don’t even have to live in Montana to know that Congressional candidate Kim Gillan is the bees-knees. This article gives props to the neighborhood activist that has now risen to the Democratic leadership of the Montana Senate. And, just to top off the awesome, Planned Parenthood has recently endorsed her.
Don’t Hold Back, Tkacyzk
Assemblyman George Amedore’s refusal to vote for equal pay is “deeply disturbing,” as NY State Senate hopeful Cecilia Tkaczyk has so delicately put it. Boom! Not quite finished tellin’ it like it is, she also said that “as state senator, [she] will stand up to extremists...and ensure that women’s health is no longer a partisan issue, but a basic human right." Well, sign MsRep up for a few of those.
Kicking Ass and Taking Names
New Hampshire hopes to make history this election cycle with its three pro-choice women candidates running for office: gubernatorial nominee Maggie Hassan and House hopefuls Carol Shea-Porter and Ann McLane Kuster. People, we cannot stress this enough: Hassan is the only pro-choice female running for governor. In. The. COUNTRY. She’s also running against this guy, so, yeah. There’s that.

14 Days Until the Election
Just two weeks out from Election Day and this is no time to get complacent. Women are 50% of the population, 17% of Congress, and 0% ok with that.
Which means it's time to commence Operation: MsRepresentation!
During the next critical two weeks, MsRep is amping up her election coverage to provide y'all with daily updates featuring all the latest from the campaign trail including who said what, who's surging in the polls, which races are going down to the wire, which candidates to light candles for, and when it's safe to pop the Champagne.
MsRep could use your help to get the word out, though. I hereby call upon thee to tell your friends to sign up for Operation: MsRepresentation and follow us on Facebook and Twitter. And, if you're feeling generous, make a contribution to WCF because MsReps don't just grow on trees, you know. Although if they did, those would be some pretty badass trees, amirite?
Anyway, she gets it:
