Women's Campaign Forum

Women’s Campaign Forum, founded in 1974, is the only non-partisan political venture capitalist organization supporting women leaders at all levels of office, during the earliest stages of their public life.

Sexism Watch

Despite our political gains in the past few decades, women are still overwhelmingly underrepresented in public office and continue to face blatant sexism and misogyny as candidates and elected officials.

This is unacceptable, and we need your help to change it.

Recent sexist attacks on women in politics include:

  • Massachusetts Attorney General and Senatorial candidate Martha Coakley was attacked for not answering a question during a press conference. A Boston Herald columnist called her "Ice Queen," "Mean Girl," and "Mean Martha."
  • Maine Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins were berated by Rush Limbaugh and other radio personalities for their health care views, using terms like "Jezebel" and "Stupid Girl."

WCF President/CEO Siobhan "Sam" Bennett responds and tells her personal story of blatant misogyny that she encountered during her candidacy for Congress:
