She Should Run™
THE PROBLEM:
The U.S. is currently ranked 84th in the world for the number of women serving in its national legislature.
U.S. Congress, arguably the most powerful legislative body in the world, is only 17% women.
THE REASON: The political ambition gap.
50% less women than men consider of running for office. Of those, 30% less actually run, with only a fraction seeking higher office. (Lawless and Fox 2005).
However, when women do run, they win at equal rates to men.
THE SOLUTION: She Should Run.
A woman needs to be asked an average of SIX times before seriously considering candidacy.
To increase the number of women in government, we need more women across the country seriously considering running for office.
WCF's She Should Run program provides an easy way for you to ask a woman to run for office - providing the encouragement she needs from someone she trusts.
Studies show women are more likely to run for office if we ask them to run. Your Ask could be the spark that ignites her political career!
With She Should Run, we are committed to making sure as many women as possible are asked. Once we're given the name of a woman, we will ensure these women receive the support, training, and resources they need to join the next class of strong and successful women leaders in our country.
Since 2007, WCF has collected over 2,000 online nominations for the She Should Run program.
WCF is committed to ensuring these women get essential encouragement they need and to providing them connections to key public life decision making tools and campaign resources. She Should Run™ members are looking to run at all levels of public office from School Board to Congress, regardless of political party.
