Women’s Campaign Fund To Unveil Solution to Preventing Future Government Shutdowns Tonight At 24th Annual DC Parties of Your Choice

(WASHINGTON, DC) – With the 113th Congress soaring to new levels of dysfunction and in the midst of the first government shutdown in 16 years, Women’s Campaign Fund President/CEO Siobhan “Sam” Bennett offered a surefire solution to improve the effectiveness of Congress and prevent future shutdowns: elect more women.

“As the country’s first national women’s organization to support women on both sides of the aisle and at all levels of government, Women’s Campaign Fund has nearly 40 years of hard evidence of the impact women make when in office,” said Bennett. “Women tend to run for office because they want to get something done, not for the prestige or to be obstructionists. They also bring a different leadership style, one geared more towards finding common ground. We’re seeing firsthand the effect that the lack of women’s voices has on Capitol Hill. The result? A paralyzed Congress more interested in pointing fingers than doing the hard work they were sent here to do."

Tonight, at the 24th Annual DC Parties of Your Choice, hosted on the rooftop of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Bennett will lead the crowd in a toast to the WCF women in office, many of whom were scheduled to appear before the shutdown, as well as future women office holders.

“In Washington, everyone loves to throw around the word ‘compromise,’ but these are the women that actually walk the walk,” said Bennett. “Tonight, we applaud their hard work, their willingness to reach across the aisle, and their ability to effect change despite their small numbers. However, until we elect dramatically more women to office, we’ll be stuck only imagining the functional Congress we could have had.”

  • ★ 50% Representation

Why should good government depend on only half of the nation’s human capital? WCF commits to 50% representation of women in elected office by 2028.

  • ★ Common Ground

Common ground just means problems get solved more collaboratively, for the good of more people. It’s the bedrock of our leadership at home and abroad.

  • ★ Viability for Election

It takes more than money to make a candidate worth electing. WCF looks for guts, street sense, situational awareness, resilience -- the full range of gifts a woman brings to the race.

  • ★ Non-Partisan

A woman’s place is in every party, every elected office, at every level. Period.
