As a former 9-1-1 dispatcher, a former Assemblywoman, and as a State Senator, Norma Torres has a demonstrated track record of wanting to help her community, especially those most in need. During the economic crisis, Norma proved herself a leader by spearheading several initiatives aimed at helping everyday Californians buy and keep their homes.

Norma currently serves in the State Senate, representing California’s 32nd district.

She previously served as a State Assemblywoman, on the Pomona City Council, and as Mayor of Pomona.

As an Assemblywoman, Norma successfully led an effort to secure $2 billion in federal funds for the “Keep Your Home California” program.

Additionally, Norma helped pass the Homeowner’s Bill of Rights to protect consumers from foreclosure and authored legislation to accelerate the construction of affordable housing, help delinquent homeowners refinance their second mortgages, and make it easier for returning veterans to purchase homes.

She has been an honored guest in Guatemala, where she toured the country, met with Heads-of-State, and received the country’s highest honor, the Order of the Great Congress of Guatemala, in the rank of Knight.

Norma is a former 911 dispatcher and authored a law to modernize the 9-1-1 system.
